On April 6, 1909, one of modern history's most remarkable events took place — the first successful expedition to reach the geographic North Pole. Turner Network Television (TNT) and Turner Learning, Inc. are joining forces to bring the TNT Original GLORY & HONOR, the true story of Robert Peary and Matthew Henson's trek to the North Pole into the classroom to teach elements of history and literature through film. TNT Learning is offering educators free curriculum materials to integrate the film into the classroom. GLORY & HONOR premieres on TNT Sunday, March l at 8 p.m.(ET).

The TNT Learning classroom guide for GLORY & HONOR can be integrated into science, language arts, social studies, multicultural education or environmental issues. GLORY & HONOR, which stars Delroy Lindo (Ransom) and Henry Czerny (Mission: Impossible), chronicles the explorations of United States explorers Peary and Henson and four Inuit men who braved 40 foot ice walls, shifting ice packs, temperatures reaching -60º F, howling winds and snow so thick one could not see as they searched for the North Pole. The film also explores the disparate fates of the two explorers, one of whom (Peary, a white military officer) was welcomed as a national hero, while the other (Henson, a black journeyman explorer) was relegated to obscurity. GLORY & HONOR highlights four themes that can be addressed in conjunction with the classroom guide: media literacy, sharing recognition, personal perseverance and geography.

This interdisciplinary unit provides discussion questions and activities to be used before, during and after viewing the film. The educational outreach includes a comprehensive teaching guide, a website and a home-viewing page that encourages family viewing and home discussion. The materials will be distributed to enrolled educators via direct mail through cable systems and can be accessed through TNT's website address, tnt.turner.com/tntoriginals.

TNT programming has been honored over the years with several National Education Awards for education extensions of past programs, including Andersonville, The Borrowers, In Search of Dr. Seuss, and the Native American programming initiative. Turner Learning collaborates with TNT to help create educational extensions and curriculum guides for select TNT Originals. The next film in the series will be The Day Lincoln Was Shot, which debuts on TNT Sunday, April 12.
