The international disgrace
caused by "The Prince of Liars" Frederick A. Cook

The con artist Dr. Frederick A. Cook, who took from Henson & Peary every honor they had earned with their brave efforts. Some call him a "claim jumper", all agree he was a fraud. Scientist who saw his "evidence" called it a "childish attempt at cheating".
An International Disgrace
This political cartoon is from a French magazine. But this was no joke. Cook humiliated the United States in addition to stirring up hatred towards the man he was so jealous of, Commander Peary.
"The barb that hurt most of all was the widespread accusation that Peary, rather than taking Bartlett on the final run, had chosen Matt because he was an "ignorant Negro" who would blindly accept "Massah Peary's" word that they had reached the historic Goal." from Matthew Henson, 1979, by Dolan
Above, Cook Society material viewed as hate literature mailed to Black Studies and history departments by Russell Gibbons. This legacy was actually started 90 years ago by clan chief Fred Cook. His racism of Henson is clearly stated in his vindictive 1911 book. Cook accused Peary of taking, in the place of Robert Bartlett "...a negro..." Ignoring the well established fact that Bartlett was only part of the support team. Peary took Henson because Matt was his top trail breaker and they had worked together for 18 years. But to Cook, he was only a "negro" to be ridiculed in his efforts to vilify Peary.
The simple fact of history is that Cook was a fake
His scheme was to claim the glory of being the first to reach the North Pole. The only problem was he never went near the North Pole. If not for Cook the entire 1909 expedition team and Henson would have been given every honor, award and celebration. They were international heroes yet they came home to a nightmare created and perpetuated by Fred Cook, whom Peary referred to as "that God Damn SOB Cook". He was perfectly justified in that appraisal! Cook later published a very nasty, vindictive book that his trust fund paid "Cook Society" still publishes! In other words, instead of seeking forgiveness, instead of making amends for the damage he caused Cook perpetuated what is now a 90 year old hate campaign against Henson & Peary. Want to see proof?

(left) Is this "hate literature?" I think so. The Cook Society, a tax exempt "educational" corporation created what I view as hate literature, shown at left. Although they are a non-profit educational corporation fueled by the $1,000,000 Vetters trust fund, they send this kind of "literature" (left) to "...a list of Black Studies and history departments."

The criminal; "The Prince of Liars"

Fred Cook Committed a series of hoaxes and con artist scams victimizing the team that reached the North Pole. Was thrown out of the Explorers Club, The National Geographic Society, and other scientific organizations. Was disgraced in Europe, hid in South America under an assumed name and finally landed in Federal Prison.

What did Matt say about Dr. Cook's North Pole Fraud?

One of Cook's victims was
Matthew Henson
As co-discoverer of the Pole Matt should have received many honors when he returned from the North Pole. He was an American hero who had saved Peary's life twice. Henson & Peary were a team; each needing the other to accomplished one of the most difficult feats of exploration ever attempted in history. In desperation to aggrandize himself Cook tried to discredit Henson & Peary by claiming they had not reached the North Pole. People who took sides and supported Cook were cruel.
